The Convalescent Center is a 200 bed facility, licensed to provide skilled and intermediate care. We participate in the Medicare, Medicaid, and V.A. Contract programs and also accept Private Pay. Our rate plan is available upon request. The basic rate covers room, board, and nursing care services. Additional charges which may be incurred include: medications, physician's services, lab work, physical therapy, speech or occupational therapy, medical supplies, and beauty/barber shop services.
We offer specialized areas of care. These areas are: an Alzheimer's/Dementia Unit, a Rehabilitation Unit for short-term care under Medicare, and Restorative Units for long-term nursing home care. If an applicant is unable to meet nursing home expenses, application can be made for Medicaid assistance at Christian City through the financial counseling services of our Resident Finance Departmentt.
Christian City offers a wide range of services to complement our nursing care. These include an extensive activities program, Dental and Podiatry Services, Rehabilitation Therapy, and religious services coordinated by our Chaplain. A social worker is on staff to assist residents and their families, as needed.
Please feel free to contact our Admissions Coordinator, Beth Campbell, if you would like copies of the admissions forms, a tour of the facility, or if you have any questions. Email admissions@Christian-City.org, call, or write to the following address:

Peace of Mind For Families...
Friendship Place is a 34-bed special care unit within Sparks Inn which provides
a safe and secure environment for residents with dementia, Alzheimer's disease
or other memory impairments. Our Alzheimer's unit originally opened in 1984 as a
freestanding facility, but was integrated into Sparks Inn in February of 2000.
This program offers more extensive services than regular assisted living through
a protective, supportive and highly structured environment. Experienced 24-hour
caregivers provide the stability and continuity that these residents need. The
supervisor of this specialty unit is certified in Alzheimer's care. Meals and
laundry services are provided in the unit.
Admission
The Friendship Place resident's admission is based upon the state regulations for personal care homes. The resident is usually continent and able to feed himself, but requires supervision and direction. Public funding (Medicaid/Medicare) is currently not available for this type of care. For those requiring additional support or nursing care, we offer a special Alzheimer's Care Unit in the Convalescent Center.
Activities
We offer an activity program that provides as much freedom as possible. Because of the activity program, the resident must be able to ambulate independently. An assistive device (walker/cane) may be used if needed. In addition to our daily activities, we have monthly outings such as lunch at a local restaurant or a picnic. We encourage our family members to participate in any of our programs as well.
Daycare/Respite
Friendship Place provides a daycare program 7 days per week. This program includes 3 meals a day and snacks, activity programs and assistance with medications as needed. Our respite program is also available 7 days per week. Residents in this program receive their meals, a furnished suite, and participate in all activity programs, during their short stay.

Our community approach to retirement living allows our residents to really relax! Seniors can enjoy all the benefits of living in a residential setting in our Life-Lease patio homes without the worries or responsibilities of traditional home ownership. For a one-time lease payment and a monthly maintenance fee our residents have the assurance of a lifetime lease, and never again worry about mowing the yard, repairing the plumbing, or dealing with a leaky roof. One bedroom apartments are also available for seniors with a limited income or for people who are mobility impaired. A wide variety of activities help keep our residents engaged in life.
Life Lease Retirement Homes
In 1967 this ministry to individuals and couples of retirement age began with the opening of the first life-lease unit of Christian City Retirement Homes. Each individual or couple provided the funds for construction of the units. The program is designed to permit individuals or couples to lease a unit for the duration of their lifetime. Then the unit reverts back to Christian City to begin another cycle of occupancy by a different individual or couple.
Residency Requirements for Life-Lease Units:
Residents must be 65 years old or older and able to live independently. Only those individuals listed on the original contract can reside in the unit. Any other arrangements must be approved by Christian City.
Residents must have financial resources for the basic cost of the unit and to pay the monthly maintenance fee. The basic life-lease cost of a unit varies depending on size, location and special features.
The residents have the right to live in their own units for the remainder of their lives as long as they can maintain themselves independently.
If a resident moves from the unit before completing 100 months of occupancy, that resident will receive the basic cost that was paid for the unit less one percent (1%) for each month of occupancy. Basic costs do not include any improvements made to the unit at resident expense; i.e.: sunrooms and carports.
If a resident deceases within the first 12 months of occupancy and is the sole occupant of the unit, a refund of 50% of the basic cost that was paid by the resident for the unit will be paid to the resident's estate at the time arrangements are completed for occupancy by a new resident. If the resident deceases after 12 months and is the sole occupant, their is no refund.
Occupancy begins with the month in which the resident becomes responsible for paying the monthly maintenance fee.
The monthly maintenance fee, reviewed annually and adjusted according to the actual cost for utilities and maintenance provided for all life-lease units, is due by the 10th of each month to the designated location for that housing area.

The maintenance/utility fees include maintenance, repairs and care of the unit and yard as deemed necessary by Christian City, and weekly garbage pickups. There are NO PROPERTY TAXES on the life-lease units.

The Strengthening Center at Christian City
The Strengthening Center at Christian City offers programs designed to strengthen and promote independence for senior citizens. A regular exercise plan with weight resistance training has been proven to combat the effects of many ills, including heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
One of the best things about the Strengthening Center is that each new client is set up on his or her own individualized program. The Technogym Line features reduced weight stack increments, range of motion limiting devices and wider seats. The increase in strength that many seniors get from this optimal resistance exercise training means the difference between independence and dependent living.
Another great thing about the Strengthening Center is that it is not just for Christian City residents it is open to the community as well! The Strengthening Center at Christian City offers three distinct programs. Fees differ according to the program level.
1. Rehabilitation Therapy: Medicare-covered therapy provided by a licensed therapist to regain lost strength, mobility, or functioning due to injury or illness. 2. Strength Restoration Program: group program for people seeking to restore lost strength & /or functional ability. Staff provide significant supervision and assistance. 3. Healthy Living Fitness Class: group program for active seniors who wish to retain strength and functioning, and enjoy the wellness benefits of a regular exercise program. Staff support is provided for instruction, general monitoring and motivation. |

Swimming Pool
Another area of the Wellness Program is our indoor swimming pool. There are many activities at the pool including a full schedule of water aerobic classes. Water aerobics is a proven technique for improving flexibility, balance and reducing chronic pain from conditions such as arthritis. This aerobic activity benefits the cardiovascular system and improves endurance. Because the program takes place in an indoor, heated pool, participants obtain a greater aerobic benefit by exercising all muscles simultaneously. They are also less likely to injure themselves in the process, as compared to aerobic exercise outside of the pool.
