Christian City is not a church. Its purpose is to minister to families in a very tangible way as an expression of the love of God toward all people. We encourage all who come to Christian City to participate in their own community of faith. However, as people get older, their ability to attend worship services off campus diminishes. As that happens, Christian City encourages their place of worship to maintain contact with the resident, visit them, and be aware of their needs. As this process takes place, Christian City does all that it can to support that activity. As an alternative, Christian City provides a wide variety of offerings to meet the spiritual needs of our community. Under the supervision of Christian City’s Director of Spiritual Care, various local Christian congregations help provide worship services on Sunday afternoons and at various times during the week in one of our three chapel settings. In addition, Bible studies and times of special spiritual emphasis are provided for all who wish to take advantage of them. With the help of more than 50 volunteer chaplains, residents are visited regularly, offered opportunities for counseling, prayer and attendance at available services. To best meet the needs of all residents, every employee and volunteer of Christian City is provided specific instruction in principles of the Christian faith, our mission, vision and values, and in behaviors consistent with it. In addition, our administrative staff regularly participates in corporate prayer and devotional activities as a regular part of daily administrative activities. All services provided at Christian City are viewed in the context of Christian ministry. Therefore, our philosophy of ministry is an important element of all employee orientation and training. That philosophy is that we are participating in the preparation of young people to live a Christian life in a hostile world, as well as provide our aged and infirm population with the strength to cope with difficulties in this life as well as prepare for the life to come.
